Trump Signals Willingness to Negotiate Tariff Reductions

President Donald Trump has expressed a willingness to negotiate the reduction of newly imposed 10% tariffs on imports, depending on trade concessions from other countries. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump indicated that deals—like those involving China’s TikTok—could be used to reduce tariffs. However, he clarified that no such talks are currently taking place.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick added that the U.S. administration is actively engaging with international partners to lower tariffs, especially to improve access for U.S. agricultural products. However, these reductions will require reciprocal trade policy changes from other nations, allowing more U.S. goods to enter their markets.

While the Trump administration remains open to tariff negotiations, these discussions will likely depend on other countries adjusting their trade practices.
