HLN, formerly known as Headline News, is an American pay television news channel owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. It is the flagship channel of the CNN U.S. division, and provides continuous coverage of news, weather, and sports.
HLN was launched on January 1, 1982, as Headline News. The channel was originally conceived as a 24-hour news service that would provide brief updates on top stories every 30 minutes. However, the channel quickly evolved into a more traditional news channel, with live reports, interviews, and analysis.
In the early years, HLN was known for its use of a chyron, or scrolling text display, at the bottom of the screen. This allowed viewers to stay up-to-date on the latest news headlines while watching other programs. HLN also became known for its use of anchors who would read the news in a conversational tone, rather than the more formal style that was common on other news channels.
In the 1990s, HLN began to expand its programming beyond news. The channel added shows on weather, sports, and entertainment. In 2005, HLN underwent a major rebranding, and its name was changed from Headline News to HLN. The channel also adopted a new logo and slogan, “Now More Than Ever.”
Today, HLN is a leading provider of news and information. The channel offers a wide variety of programming, including live news coverage, breaking news updates, in-depth interviews, and analysis. HLN also has a strong focus on weather and sports, and provides extensive coverage of major sporting events.
