A deadly shooting outside a popular nightlife spot in Austin has left the community shaken as investigators work to determine what motivated the gunman.
What Happened
The shooting occurred early March 1 outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden, located in the city’s busy Sixth Street entertainment district near the University of Texas at Austin campus.
Authorities say the suspect opened fire into a crowd gathered outside the bar, killing two people at the scene and injuring more than a dozen others. A third victim later died at a hospital. Police officers responding within minutes confronted and fatally shot the suspect, preventing further casualties.
Several of the injured were reported in serious condition, though officials have not released all identities as families are being notified.

Law enforcement identified the shooter as a 53-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal. Officials say he legally owned the firearms used in the attack.
