Venezuela has announced a massive military mobilization in response to an escalating U.S. military presence in the Caribbean, raising tensions in the region to unprecedented levels. President Nicolás Maduro framed the buildup as a defensive measure, warning that Venezuela would protect its sovereignty against what he called “imperialist threats.”
The U.S. recently deployed the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group along with multiple warships, advanced aircraft, and surveillance assets to the Caribbean Sea. The country has also launched large-scale military exercises to integrate all branches of the armed forces and prepare for rapid response to any perceived threat.
