During a visit to Pituffik Space Base in Greenland, U.S. Vice President JD Vance accused Denmark of underinvesting in Greenland’s security, arguing that the island would be safer under U.S. protection against threats from Russia and China.

In response, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen criticized Vance’s remarks, stating that Denmark remains committed to Greenland’s security and is open to discussions under the existing 1951 defense agreement. Meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen plans to visit Greenland to reaffirm Denmark’s dedication to the territory.

Greenlandic officials have also voiced strong opposition to any U.S. annexation, emphasizing their sovereignty and cultural identity. Despite this, President Donald Trump continues to push for U.S. control over Greenland, citing its strategic and economic value. The situation remains tense as diplomatic discussions unfold.
