Orem, Utah — State leaders and federal investigators convened a press conference on Wednesday following the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, who was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the killing a “political assassination,” vowing that every available resource would be used to bring the perpetrator to justice. “This attack was not only on Charlie Kirk but also on free expression and civil discourse in America,” Cox said.

Authorities initially detained a person of interest for questioning but later released them without charges. Officials clarified that the primary shooter has not been captured. According to Director Mason, only one shot was fired during the incident, launched from a nearby building approximately 200 meters from the university’s outdoor stage.
