Trump Signs Executive Order to Expand IVF Access and Reduce Costs

On February 18, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at improving access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and lowering its costs. The order directs the Domestic Policy Council to develop recommendations within 90 days to make IVF more affordable and widely available.

Currently, a single IVF cycle can cost between $12,000 and $25,000, with many patients requiring multiple cycles. Insurance coverage remains limited, with only a quarter of employers offering benefits and few states mandating coverage. While Trump’s order seeks to reduce financial barriers, it does not immediately provide free IVF, as he previously promised during his campaign.

The initiative has received mixed reactions, with anti-abortion activists expressing concerns about embryo handling. The administration has yet to clarify how these cost reductions will be implemented or funded.
