Trump Shrugs Off Recession Fears, Says Economy Will ‘Do Fantastically’

President Donald Trump has dismissed growing concerns over a possible U.S. recession, saying he is not worried and remains confident the economy will rebound strongly. Speaking during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump described the current economic slowdown as a “transition period” and predicted the nation would “do fantastically” in the near future.

Despite a recent 0.3% contraction in the U.S. GDP—the first decline since 2022—Trump insisted that any economic issues stem from the previous Biden administration. “The good parts are the Trump economy,” he said, “and the bad parts are the Biden economy.”

Trump also defended his aggressive trade policies, including imposing tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports. He argued these measures are necessary to protect American industries and reduce the country’s reliance on cheap foreign goods. “We don’t need to be importing 30 dolls for every 11-year-old girl,” he said, referencing the flood of inexpensive products from overseas.

While critics argue these tariffs could hurt consumers and trigger inflation, Trump maintained they are part of a long-term strategy to boost domestic manufacturing and economic independence. He acknowledged that “anything can happen” when it comes to the economy, but remained optimistic, claiming the U.S. is on the verge of “the greatest economic boom in history.”

Economists remain divided. Some warn that Trump’s policies could worsen the downturn, while others believe strong consumer spending and job growth may cushion the impact. For now, Trump is sticking to his message: stay the course, trust the process, and prepare for a booming recovery.
