President Donald Trump has ordered the immediate termination of Secret Service protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden, children of former President Joe Biden. He cited concerns over excessive taxpayer spending, particularly criticizing the large security detail assigned to Hunter Biden during his recent trip to South Africa.
Hunter Biden, 54, had been accompanied by 18 agents, while Ashley Biden, 43, had 13 agents assigned to her protection. Trump deemed these security measures unnecessary, arguing that they went beyond standard protocol.
Secret Service protection for former presidents’ family members usually ends when they leave office. However, both Biden and Trump extended protections for their children. In 2021, Trump had granted a six-month extension for his own children after leaving office.
The Secret Service has acknowledged Trump’s directive and is now implementing the changes. The decision has sparked debate over the costs and scope of security provided to former presidents’ families.
