Trump Administration Asks Supreme Court to Lift Deportation Flight Ban

The Trump administration has urged the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a federal judge’s order blocking deportation flights of Venezuelan migrants under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. This follows a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals that upheld the temporary restraining order issued by Judge James Boasberg.

The administration argues that the president has ultimate authority over national security and that the court order disrupts diplomatic and security operations. President Trump has also called for Boasberg’s impeachment, a move criticized by Chief Justice John Roberts.

Civil rights groups, including the ACLU, oppose the use of the Alien Enemies Act, arguing it denies migrants due process. Families of deported individuals claim wrongful classification based on appearance and cultural ties rather than actual gang affiliations.

The Supreme Court has set a deadline for responses, signaling an expedited review of the case.
