Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old student from Frisco, Texas, has been granted bond following his arrest for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a track meet on April 2, 2025. Initially held on a $1 million bond, Anthony’s bond was reduced to $250,000 during a hearing on April 14, 2025. He was released on the condition that he remains under house arrest with an ankle monitor, does not use social media, and is supervised by an adult at all times.
Anthony is also prohibited from contacting Metcalf’s family and is not allowed to engage in school activities. He must check in with the court weekly.
The tragic incident occurred at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, during a UIL track meet. Witnesses reported that the altercation started when Metcalf, a student at Frisco Memorial High School, asked Anthony to move from a seating area. The situation escalated, with Anthony allegedly pulling a knife from his backpack and stabbing Metcalf in the chest. Anthony later admitted to the stabbing, claiming he acted in self-defense, stating, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”
Both families have asked for privacy during this difficult time, and fundraisers have been launched to support both Anthony’s defense and Metcalf’s family. Over $400,000 has been raised for Anthony’s legal fees, while more than $275,000 has been raised for Metcalf’s family.
