Supreme Court Halts Deportations Under Trump Administration’s Immigration Policy

The U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deporting Venezuelan migrants under the Alien Enemies Act, a law dating back to the 18th century. The decision came after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed an emergency petition arguing that the government was violating constitutional rights by deporting individuals without proper judicial review.

The administration had planned to deport suspected members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to a high-security prison in El Salvador. However, many of those detained claim they were wrongly accused and denied a chance to challenge the allegations in court.

Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented from the ruling. Justice Alito criticized the decision as rushed and said the Court should have allowed lower courts more time to review the matter.

President Trump strongly opposed the Court’s decision, calling the justices “weak and ineffective” and accusing them of allowing criminals to remain in the U.S.

The ruling highlights growing legal tensions over the Trump administration’s immigration strategy and the controversial use of the Alien Enemies Act to justify deportations.
