On March 7, 2025, South Carolina executed Brad Sigmon, 67, by firing squad—the first such execution in the U.S. in 15 years. Sigmon, convicted of a 2001 double murder, chose this method over lethal injection or electrocution.
The execution took place at Broad River Correctional Institution, where three prison officers fired at his heart from 15 feet. He was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m.
