Starbucks baristas in San Jose have joined a nationwide strike involving over 300 stores across 45 states. Organized by Starbucks Workers United, the strike began on December 20, 2024, and is set to conclude on Christmas Eve. The union, representing employees at 525 stores, is demanding fair contract negotiations, citing issues with wages, staffing, and scheduling. Despite the strike, Starbucks reports that approximately 98% of its more than 10,000 U.S. company-operated stores remain open, with around 170 locations closed due to the walkout. The company maintains that it offers competitive pay and benefits, while the union argues that current conditions are inadequate, especially during the busy holiday season.
