The controversy began when Hegseth texted details of a planned U.S. military strike in Yemen, unaware that journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was in the chat. This accidental leak has raised serious concerns about operational security.
Lieu stated that Hegseth recklessly endangered troops and must be held accountable. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has defended Hegseth, blaming the issue on potential tech failures and dismissing the backlash as a “witch hunt.”
Despite Trump’s support, calls for Hegseth’s resignation continue to grow, with critics arguing that his lack of judgment has put U.S. security at risk.
