On March 18, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days after a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump. However, he refused to commit to a full ceasefire, citing demands such as stopping Western military aid to Ukraine.

The agreement aims to reduce civilian suffering caused by power shortages, but other military operations will continue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the pause but stressed the need for a complete ceasefire.

Western leaders remain skeptical, warning that Putin could use this break to regroup Russian forces. Talks will continue, but a long-term peace deal remains uncertain.
