Judge Reinstates Trump’s Federal Worker Buyout Program

A federal judge has reinstated former President Donald Trump’s deferred resignation program, allowing his administration to move forward with plans to reduce the federal workforce. The ruling came after labor unions challenged the program, arguing that it lacked transparency and required congressional approval. However, the judge determined that the unions lacked legal standing and that employees should first seek administrative remedies before filing lawsuits.

The program offers eligible federal employees the option to resign voluntarily while continuing to receive pay and benefits until September 30, 2025. Reports indicate that around 65,000 workers have accepted the offer so far. This initiative aligns with broader government restructuring efforts.

Despite the ruling, labor unions have vowed to continue their legal fight, raising concerns about compensation guarantees. The judge’s decision does not settle the program’s legality, leaving room for further legal challenges. For now, the administration is moving forward, and the program is closed to new applicants.
