Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter passed away on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100 in Plains, Georgia. President Joe Biden led tributes, describing Carter as an extraordinary leader and humanitarian, while former Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton praised his lifelong dedication to justice, human rights, and public service.

Carter’s presidency (1977–1981) was marked by significant achievements like the Camp David Accords, but his post-presidency humanitarian efforts earned him global respect. As founder of the Carter Center, he worked to promote democracy, fight disease, and resolve conflicts, earning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. International leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, honored his contributions to global diplomacy.

Plans for his state funeral include a lying-in-state at the U.S. Capitol, a service at Washington National Cathedral, and burial in his hometown. Carter is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, following the death of his wife Rosalynn in 2023. His passing marks the end of an extraordinary life dedicated to peace and service.
