Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett sparked controversy after referring to Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a speech in Los Angeles. Abbott has used a wheelchair since a 1984 accident, making the comment highly controversial.
Republicans and disability rights advocates condemned the remark, with Senator John Cornyn calling it disgraceful. Representative Randy Weber even proposed a censure resolution. Advocacy groups criticized Crockett for using language that could perpetuate stigma against people with disabilities.
Crockett later clarified that her intent was to criticize Abbott’s policies, not his disability, particularly his migrant relocation programs. However, the controversy has fueled broader discussions about the importance of respectful political discourse.
