Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has firmly dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks suggesting the U.S. could acquire Greenland. In a statement, Nielsen declared, “The United States will not get Greenland. We determine our own future.”

Trump had reiterated his interest in Greenland, citing its strategic importance due to its location near Russia and China. His comments followed Vice President JD Vance’s recent visit to the U.S. military base in northern Greenland, where Vance criticized Denmark’s management of the island and suggested the U.S. could offer better security.

Greenlandic and Danish leaders have consistently rejected such claims, emphasizing Greenland’s autonomy and self-governance. The dispute has heightened tensions between the U.S., Greenland, and Denmark, reinforcing Greenland’s stance that its future lies solely in the hands of its people.
