Several U.S. federal agencies, including the FBI and the Pentagon, have told their employees to disregard a directive from Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk’s email ordered all federal workers to submit a weekly summary of their accomplishments or risk termination.
FBI Director Kash Patel instructed agents to “pause any responses,” while the Department of Defense advised civilian employees to ignore the request. The State Department also dismissed the directive, stating it would respond on behalf of its staff.
The move has sparked backlash from federal employee unions, calling it “disrespectful.” Lawmakers are questioning the legality of Musk’s orders, which align with broader government cost-cutting efforts.
