The family of 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, who is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of fellow student Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, has spoken publicly for the first time.

Anthony’s father defended his son, stating that Karmelo was acting in self-defense during the confrontation on April 2 at Kuykendall Stadium. According to authorities, the incident began when Metcalf asked Anthony to leave a team tent during a weather delay. The situation escalated quickly, with witnesses saying Anthony warned Metcalf not to touch him before allegedly stabbing him in the chest.

Police reports indicate that Anthony admitted to the stabbing during his arrest, reportedly saying, “I did it,” and asked officers if it could be considered self-defense. He is currently being held on a $1 million bond and could face up to 99 years in prison if convicted.

The victim, Austin Metcalf, was a student-athlete remembered by his family as driven and kind, with plans to play college football. His twin brother, Hunter, who witnessed the stabbing, said he tried to help but was unable to save him.

The tragic event has shocked the Frisco community and sparked debate over school safety and youth violence, as both families cope with devastating consequences.
