DHS Strips Legal Status from Over 900,000 Migrants Who Used CBP One App

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has revoked legal status for more than 900,000 migrants who entered the country through the CBP One app, instructing them to leave the U.S. immediately. These individuals had previously been granted temporary parole and work authorization while awaiting immigration proceedings.

The CBP One app was launched in early 2023 as a way to manage border crossings more efficiently by allowing migrants to schedule appointments at official ports of entry. However, under the Biden administration’s recent policy shift aimed at tightening immigration control, DHS is now terminating those temporary permissions.

Notices have already been issued to affected migrants, warning that failure to depart voluntarily may result in enforcement actions, including deportation and long-term reentry bans. To assist with this process, DHS has released the CBP Home app—an updated version of CBP One—designed to help migrants manage their self-deportation.

This decision does not affect individuals under specific humanitarian parole programs such as United for Ukraine and Operation Allies Welcome. However, immigrant advocacy groups have criticized the move, warning it could severely damage trust in the immigration process and displace thousands who had begun to build lives in the U.S. under the previous guidelines.
