Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem became the victim of theft while dining with her family at The Capital Burger in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening. Her purse, containing $3,000 in cash, her passport, driver’s license, apartment keys, DHS access badge, blank checks, medication, and other personal items, was stolen. The cash was reportedly meant for Easter gifts and family activities during their visit.

Surveillance footage reviewed by the Secret Service shows a man wearing a medical mask taking the purse and leaving the restaurant. Despite Noem being under Secret Service protection, her security detail was unable to prevent the theft.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation into the incident, reviewing security footage and attempting to trace any use of Noem’s stolen financial instruments. The incident has raised questions about security protocols and the responsibilities of high-ranking officials in the government.

Noem, a key figure in the Trump administration, has been involved in several controversies, including her support for strict immigration policies and a recent Supreme Court decision that blocked the deportation of Venezuelans under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act.
