A 32-year-old man in Waterbury, Connecticut, escaped after being held captive in his stepmother’s home for two decades. Authorities say he had been locked in a small room since the age of 11, enduring extreme neglect, starvation, and abuse. When rescued, he weighed only 68 pounds.
To escape, the victim set a fire using hand sanitizer and paper, hoping emergency responders would intervene.
