BREAKING: Chicago ICE Agents Fired Upon During Immigration Operation

A violent confrontation broke out in Chicago on Saturday when shots were fired at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting an immigration enforcement operation in the city’s Little Village neighborhood. The attack has intensified already-high tensions between federal authorities and local residents amid nationwide debates over immigration policy.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE agents were assisting Border Patrol officers near 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue when an unidentified suspect opened fire from a black Jeep. The suspect immediately fled the scene and remains at large. No agents or bystanders were reported injured, but several federal vehicles were damaged during the gunfire.

Moments after the shooting, agents were reportedly targeted by agitators throwing objects, including bricks and a paint can, at law enforcement vehicles. Backup from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) quickly arrived, setting up a perimeter and helping federal agents secure the area. Authorities confirmed that no one was struck by bullets, but the investigation is ongoing as police review surveillance footage and interview witnesses.

Video from the scene shows chaos erupting as agents took cover and bystanders shouted in confusion. Some witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before seeing the suspect speed away. In the aftermath, federal officers deployed flash-bang devices and tear gas to disperse a crowd that had gathered near the operation zone.

In a related incident, a CPD officer was accidentally struck by a pickup truck while directing traffic at the scene. The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The driver, a young woman, was cited and released pending further investigation.

Federal officials have condemned the shooting, calling it a “targeted act of violence against law enforcement.” A DHS spokesperson stated, “Attacks on federal agents performing their lawful duties will not be tolerated. We will pursue every lead to bring those responsible to justice.”

The shooting occurred during an ongoing series of immigration enforcement operations in Chicago, reportedly part of a wider DHS initiative targeting undocumented individuals with prior criminal records. The operations have sparked protests across the city, particularly in immigrant-heavy neighborhoods such as Little Village and Pilsen.

Community leaders expressed concern that the violent incident could escalate mistrust between residents and law enforcement. “People are scared and frustrated,” said a local activist. “But violence is never the answer — it only deepens the divide.”

As the manhunt continues, federal and local authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle involved to contact law enforcement immediately.

The attack underscores the volatile climate surrounding U.S. immigration enforcement in major cities — where policy, politics, and public safety continue to collide.
