Australian PM Criticizes Trump’s Tariffs as ‘Not the Act of a Friend’

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed strong disapproval of President Donald Trump’s recent decision to impose a 10% tariff on all imports, including Australian goods. Albanese called the tariffs “unjustified” and stated they were “not the act of a friend,” questioning the logic behind the move, especially given Australia’s long-standing partnership with the U.S.

Despite this criticism, Australia has opted not to retaliate with similar tariffs. Instead, the Australian government plans to support local industries through initiatives like a $1 billion Economic Resilience Program, anti-dumping efforts, and strategies to diversify its markets.

The tariffs have strained the U.S.-Australia trade relationship, with potential negative impacts on various sectors, including agriculture.
