A 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Shigatse City, Tibet, on January 7, 2025, killing at least 95 people and injuring over 130. The earthquake caused the collapse of more than 1,000 homes and affected neighboring regions, including Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of India. President Xi Jinping ordered an all-out rescue effort, with Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing sent to oversee operations. Rescue teams, including over 1,500 firefighters, are working to provide assistance. The Chinese government has allocated 100 million yuan for relief efforts.
