Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Attorney General Ashley Moody to the U.S. Senate, replacing Marco Rubio after his nomination as Secretary of State by President-elect Donald Trump. Moody, 49, has served as Florida’s Attorney General since 2019 and was previously a federal prosecutor and judge.

As a fifth-generation Floridian, she comes from a law enforcement family and is the second woman from Florida to join the Senate. Moody expressed excitement about this new role, pledging to continue serving Floridians. Known for supporting conservative policies, she has opposed abortion rights expansion and recreational marijuana legalization.
