On January 29, 2025, American Eagle Flight 5342, a Bombardier CRJ700 operated by PSA Airlines, collided midair with a U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. The flight was en route from Wichita to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members. The helicopter had three military personnel on board.
Following the collision, both aircraft crashed into the river. Emergency response teams were deployed, facing harsh winter conditions. Several survivors were rescued and transported to local hospitals, though casualty numbers remain unclear. The airport temporarily halted operations, and federal authorities stated there was no immediate evidence of foul play.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
