A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Chatham, Illinois, on the afternoon of April 28, 2025, when a vehicle plowed through an after-school facility, killing four children between the ages of 4 and 18. The incident occurred at around 3:20 p.m. at the YNOT After School Camp, according to the Illinois State Police.

Investigators reported that the vehicle first struck multiple individuals outside the building before crashing through the structure and exiting through the opposite wall. Three of the young victims were outside when they were hit, while one was inside the facility at the time of the crash. Several others were injured; at least one was airlifted to a hospital for emergency care.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was not physically harmed and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name or announced whether charges will be filed as the investigation remains ongoing.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker responded to the tragedy with a statement expressing deep sorrow. “I am horrified and deeply saddened by the deaths of these children and the injuries suffered by others in Chatham today,” he said. “We have lost young lives filled with potential, and our hearts are with their families and the entire community.”

Located about 12 miles south of Springfield, Chatham is now grappling with the aftermath of an event that has shaken the town to its core. Officials emphasized that a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash and whether any legal action will follow.
