Tensions have escalated between the U.S. and Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels following recent American airstrikes targeting the group. The strikes, authorized by President Donald Trump, aimed to deter Houthi attacks on military and commercial vessels in the Red Sea, a crucial global shipping route.

The Houthi Health Ministry reported at least 53 deaths and nearly 100 injuries from the strikes, which hit Sanaa and other regions. In response, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed retaliation, warning of potential missile strikes on U.S. military assets. The group also claimed to have launched missiles and drones at the USS Harry S. Truman, though U.S. officials denied the attack’s effectiveness.

The Pentagon stated that operations will continue until the Houthis halt their assaults on shipping routes. President Trump emphasized that the strikes protect American interests and ensure freedom of navigation. Meanwhile, the United Nations urged restraint, warning of further destabilization in Yemen. Iran denied direct involvement with the Houthis but condemned the U.S. actions, cautioning against further escalation.
