Trump Claims Iran Behind Deadly Elementary School Bombing That Killed Dozens of Children

U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked controversy after claiming that Iran was responsible for a devastating bombing at a girls’ elementary school that killed more than 160 people, most of them children.

The explosion occurred on February 28 at the Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in the southern Iranian city of Minab, during the first day of escalating military operations in the region. Iranian officials reported that the blast killed large numbers of students, many aged between seven and twelve, making it one of the deadliest civilian incidents since the conflict began.

Trump Rejects Claims of U.S. Responsibility

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump rejected reports suggesting that U.S. forces may have been responsible for the strike. Instead, he blamed Iran itself for the tragedy.

“In my opinion, based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran,” Trump said. He also claimed that Iranian weapons systems lack precision, arguing that the country’s military is “very inaccurate with their munitions.”

Trump’s comments came after journalists questioned whether the United States might have been involved in the bombing while targeting nearby military facilities.

Standing beside Trump, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth took a more cautious tone, stating that the Pentagon is still investigating the incident. He added that deliberately targeting civilians would violate U.S. military policy.

Conflicting Evidence Emerges

Despite Trump’s claim, several reports and analyses suggest the strike may have occurred during U.S. military operations in the area. Satellite imagery, expert reviews, and public information about ongoing airstrikes indicate that the school was located near an Iranian military compound associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Some investigators believe the school may have been hit unintentionally during strikes targeting nearby military infrastructure. However, officials have not yet released a definitive conclusion about what caused the explosion.

Human rights groups and international organizations have called for a full investigation, warning that the incident could potentially constitute a violation of international humanitarian law if civilian facilities were knowingly targeted.

Iran Blames U.S. and Israel

Iranian authorities have strongly rejected Trump’s accusations. Officials in Tehran say the school was struck by missiles fired by U.S. or Israeli forces during the early hours of the conflict.

The Iranian government described the attack as an “egregious act of aggression” and said dozens of children were killed while attending class. Iranian state media widely broadcast images of the destroyed school building and mass funerals held for the victims.

Growing International Pressure

The bombing has drawn global condemnation and intensified scrutiny of military operations in the region. International human rights organizations and United Nations officials have demanded an independent investigation to determine who carried out the strike and whether international law was violated.

As tensions continue to escalate between the United States, Israel, and Iran, the deadly school bombing has become one of the most controversial and tragic incidents of the widening Middle East conflict.
