Federal authorities have apprehended a suspect responsible for a disturbing attack on the Newark office of Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, law enforcement officials confirmed. Attorney General Pam Bondi praised the swift response, emphasizing that threats and violence against federal prosecutors will not be tolerated.
The suspect, Keith Michael Lisa, 51, allegedly attempted to enter the Peter W. Rodino Federal Building carrying a baseball bat. After being denied entry, he returned later, this time without the weapon, and proceeded to vandalize Habba’s office, shouting and causing damage to property.
Authorities described the scene as “chilling,” noting that the suspect destroyed items in the waiting area and caused chaos in the office. Habba was not present at the time of the incident, and no staff members were injured.
Bondi highlighted the cooperation between the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and Homeland Security Investigations, which led to Lisa’s rapid apprehension. “This type of intimidation will not be tolerated,” Bondi said. She also noted that the suspect faces federal charges including possession of a dangerous weapon in a federal building and depredation of government property.
Lisa is described in official documents as approximately 6’3” tall, weighing between 200 and 230 pounds. Following his arrest, he was taken into federal custody, and authorities are preparing a strong case to ensure he faces the maximum legal consequences.
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of federal officials and highlighted the growing risks of targeted intimidation. Both Bondi and Habba stressed that federal offices are secure, and any attempt to threaten or vandalize them will be met with immediate action. Habba herself called the arrest a critical step toward justice, reinforcing that no one can undermine the work of U.S. Attorneys.
The Department of Justice has reminded the public that violence against federal personnel is a serious crime, carrying severe penalties. In light of this incident, security protocols in federal buildings nationwide are under review, and officials are urging anyone with information on threats to come forward immediately.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by federal attorneys, even in routine office environments, and underscores the Justice Department’s commitment to protecting staff, upholding the law, and prosecuting offenders to the fullest extent.
