Newly released records surrounding the late financier Jeffrey Epstein are reigniting scrutiny over his long-standing association with President Donald Trump. The documents, made public through an ongoing congressional release of Epstein’s estate materials, raise new questions about how close the two men truly were—and what Trump may have known about Epstein’s criminal activities.
The latest batch of records includes emails, call logs, personal notes, and the now-infamous “birthday book,” a scrapbook created for Epstein’s 50th birthday. Together, the documents offer a deeper and more unsettling look into Epstein’s social circle, which included numerous high-profile figures. While the files stop short of proving criminal wrongdoing by Trump, they paint a more detailed picture of a relationship that Trump has repeatedly downplayed.
One of the most striking revelations appears in a 2011 email from Epstein to Ghislaine Maxwell. In it, Epstein claims that Trump had spent significant time with one of Epstein’s victims—whose name is redacted—and implies that Trump’s silence on the matter was notable. Additional emails released by the House Oversight Committee include an exchange between Epstein and author Michael Wolff, in which Epstein alleges that Trump “knew about the girls” and even asked Maxwell to stop involving them. Another point of controversy is the “birthday book,” a personal gift compiled by Maxwell featuring drawings, photos, and handwritten messages from Epstein’s circle of acquaintances. Among the entries is a sexually suggestive illustration attributed to “Donald,” which Trump adamantly denies creating. The book also contains a photograph of Epstein holding an oversized check for $22,500 with “DJTRUMP” written on the signature line—an image that has intensified questions about the financial dimension of their relationship.
Phone logs included in the released materials further complicate Trump’s account. The logs list multiple undated calls between someone identified as “Donald Trump” and Epstein, suggesting continued communication well beyond the period Trump claims their friendship ended. Critics argue that these records contradict Trump’s long-standing narrative that he distanced himself from Epstein many years before Epstein’s downfall.
These revelations have triggered renewed political reaction. Lawmakers, particularly Democrats, are demanding that the full set of Epstein documents be released without redactions. They argue that the public deserves a complete understanding of Epstein’s network and any potential attempts to shield influential individuals from scrutiny. Meanwhile, Senator Richard Durbin has raised concerns about prior FBI handling of Epstein’s files, noting internal instructions to flag documents that mentioned Trump.
For his part, Trump has responded aggressively, denouncing the releases as defamatory and politically orchestrated. He has already filed multibillion-dollar lawsuits over allegations tied to the birthday book and insists that any claims linking him to Epstein’s crimes are false.
