Trump Slams ABC Over Jimmy Kimmel’s Comeback, Threatens Legal Fight

Trump vs. ABC: Clash Over Kimmel’s Return

President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with the media, this time targeting ABC after the network brought Jimmy Kimmel Live! back on air. The late-night host, suspended earlier this month over controversial remarks, returned to his show on September 23—prompting Trump to accuse ABC of dishonesty, bias, and political favoritism.

On his Truth Social platform, Trump lashed out: “I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his show was cancelled!” He went on to claim Kimmel’s program is overwhelmingly pro-Democrat, adding: “We’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars.”

The Suspension That Sparked Controversy

Kimmel’s suspension followed heated backlash after he made remarks regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was murdered earlier this year. The comments drew sharp criticism from Republicans, with FCC Chair Brendan Carr and broadcasting giants like Sinclair and Nexstar warning they would refuse to air Kimmel’s show unless corrective action was taken.

In response, ABC temporarily pulled the program. But after days of internal debate and mounting public pressure, the network allowed Kimmel to resume hosting. Not all affiliates complied—some stations continue to preempt the show, reflecting deep divisions over media standards, free speech, and political influence.

Kimmel’s Defiant Return

When Kimmel returned to the air, he defended his right to satire and comedy, accusing his critics of trying to silence opposing voices. In his opening monologue, he declared: “They tried their best to cancel me. But comedy is not a crime, and America shouldn’t let politicians dictate who gets to speak.”

The comments were widely applauded by free-speech advocates but slammed by Trump supporters, who argue Kimmel crossed ethical lines and used his platform to attack conservatives unfairly.

Trump’s Legal Warning

Trump’s threat to “test” ABC has raised speculation that he may pursue legal action. His reference to a previous $16 million settlement suggests he sees an opportunity to once again challenge the network in court. Legal experts note, however, that pursuing a new case would be complex, especially if framed around political bias and programming choices rather than defamation.

Media, Politics, and Polarization

The clash underscores the increasingly tense relationship between politicians and late-night television. Kimmel, known for lampooning Trump throughout his presidency, has long been a lightning rod for conservative outrage. For Trump, the controversy offers another chance to rally his base by framing mainstream media as corrupt and hostile.

As the feud escalates, one thing is clear: the battle between Trump, ABC, and Kimmel has moved beyond entertainment. It is now part of the broader war over media credibility, political influence, and freedom of expression in America.
